A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Maiya I'm looking for a family to partner with to provide care and support for their littles. I graduated from Taylor University with a degree in Social Work in 2022 and have worked in Refugee Resettlement since. Though I love my job, I am finding that I truly miss spending most of my time with kiddos and am looking for an opportunity to do just that. While I was in college, I spent my summers nannying for families in Denver and San Diego. I even had the opportunity to work as a travel nanny for a sweet family with two toddler aged boys on family vacations both in and out of the country. During my time in Taylor U's social work program, I worked as a school social work intern and volunteered in various programs working with English Language Learners and students who benefited from social emotional supports. In my free time I enjoy playing piano, hiking with my puppy Mo, boating with my family, and exploring new places. I hope to meet you and your little ones soon!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have worked at a child care center for two years, working with infants to children 12+, though most of my time was spent with children ages 1-4. I have also spent time tutoring and mentoring elementary ages students.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I highly value encouraging children to be imaginative and supporting them in achieving their goals- as small as they might seem! Reading, singing, imaginative play, going for walks, bike rides, swimming, and playing at playgrounds are some of my favorite things to do.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is having a positive relationship with the entire family. It is so important to understand preferred parenting styles, and have clear expectations. This not only ensures that the children are safe and well taken care of, but it promotes consistency in a child's life. When nanny and family are on the same page and have a warm and trusting working relationship, children are better taken care of and happier!

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience working with children who have specific behavioral and emotional needs. Though I do not have a wide range of experience working with children with special needs, I would love the opportunity to. I am quick to learn new skills and highly adaptable.

The most important part about being a nanny...

A collection of moments comes to mind when I think of "favorite". I spent about 4 months nannying two sweet boys in San Diego, and worked as their travel nanny sporadically after that summer. These boys loved animals and the ocean, so we spent most of our summer outside or at the beach. My favorite moments with them were our mornings at a specific beach watching sea lions and playing at a near by park. The boys were mesmerized by the sea lions and often liked to bark back at them, which was always a hoot!
