A little bit about me

Hi families! My name is Makayla, and I’m a certified elementary teacher with eight years of experience teaching grades K–5. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with minors in Early Childhood and Language Arts, as well as a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.

Before teaching, I spent five years working as a nanny and have experience caring for children from 3 months to 12 years old. I’m excited to return to nannying so I can provide more personalized care and build strong relationships with families.

I love encouraging creativity and learning through crafts, reading, outdoor play, puzzles, and visits to parks, libraries, and museums. I strive to create a safe, nurturing environment while supporting children’s social, emotional, and academic growth.

I have over 10 years of experience working with children in a variety of settings. I have been a public school teacher for seven years. I began my teaching career in Michigan where I taught kindergarten and first grade. After moving to Virginia, I taught fifth grade for three years and most recently kindergarten for nearly three years.

Prior to teaching, I worked as a nanny for five years caring for children from 3 months old through 12 years old. Through these roles I gained extensive experience supporting children’s daily routines, development, learning, and play.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love creating fun, engaging experiences that help children learn, explore, and build confidence. Some of my favorite activities to do with children include arts and crafts, reading books together, building puzzles, and playing board games. I also enjoy encouraging imaginative play and hands-on activities that support creativity and problem-solving.

I believe outdoor time is very important for children, so I love going on walks, visiting parks and playgrounds, and exploring nature. I also enjoy planning outings to places like libraries, museums, and community events when appropriate.

With my background in education, I like to incorporate learning into everyday activities in a fun and natural way, helping support children’s social, emotional, and academic development while making sure they feel safe, happy, and encouraged. 😊
