A little bit about me

Hi, my name is Makenzie Harris! I am from Charles County, Maryland, and I am currently a rising junior at North Carolina A&T State University. I am pursuing a dual licensure in elementary education and special education, which has helped me develop strong skills in working with children of different needs and abilities. I have a passion for creating a safe, fun, and supportive environment where children can learn and grow. I am responsible, patient, and attentive, and I enjoy engaging kids in creative and educational activities. Beyond my studies, I love volunteering, traveling, and listening to music. I am excited about the opportunity to work as a nanny and support families while gaining more hands-on experience with children.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

My relevant experience where I have also cared for children includes my field experiences in elementary school classrooms, where I worked directly with student in structured learning environments. I also have cared for children while working at a children’s fitness center, where I led fun, structured activities. Lastly I worked as a cheer coach, where I taught routines, built teamwork skills, and motivated children to believe in themselves.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy reading stories with children and bringing the characters to life in fun and engaging ways. I like helping with homework and making learning feel easier and more enjoyable. I also love doing creative activities like drawing and arts and crafts. Fun science experiments are one of my favorite ways to keep kids curious and excited about learning. I also enjoy baking together, which is a great way to teach skills while having fun.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is creating a safe, loving, and consistent environment where children feel secure and supported. Building trust with both the children and their families is essential. A nanny helps meet daily needs while also encouraging emotional, social, and intellectual growth. Being patient, reliable, and attentive makes a big difference in a child’s development. Most importantly, it’s about forming positive connections that help children feel valued and cared for.

My experience with special needs children...

I am currently pursuing a dual licensure in elementary education and special education, which has given me a strong foundation in understanding diverse learning needs. While I have not yet had direct hands-on experience working with children with special needs, I am eager to learn and grow in this area. I understand the importance of patience, flexibility, and individualized support for every child. I am committed to continuing my education and applying what I learn to provide the best care possible. I am excited to build meaningful connections and support children of all abilities.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment is seeing a child accomplish something they once felt unsure about. Whether it’s reading a new word, learning a new skill, or completing a task on their own, those moments are very rewarding. I love watching their confidence grow as they realize what they are capable of. It’s especially meaningful when they keep trying even after struggling. Seeing that growth and pride in themselves makes the experience so special.
