My experience with special needs children...
I’ve volunteered to help with special needs children in the past. I will say I’m not the most experienced person in this area, but I have a lot of experience working with kids that have learning difficulties.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of the kids I’ve worked with had major behavioral issues. He felt stressed without his parents around and had untreated ADHD. He got really upset when I told him to do his homework, so I spoke to him kindly and was able to get him to sit down and complete everything. All he needed was positive encouragement and someone to just treat him kindly without judging him for his disorder. After that, he showed me more respect and was very sweet to me. That’s my favorite moment because I have ADHD as well and understood the stress he was feeling since I had trouble at that age too. It made me really happy that I could help calm him down in that moment and also share some advice on how to manage ADHD.
