A little bit about me

Hi! I'm Malissa. Families I've worked with describe me as warm, patient, dependable, and flexible. I have 7 years of childcare experience, starting at 18 as a children's swimming instructor while babysitting during the summers. At 20, I became a full-time nanny and have since cared for children from 2 months to 12 years old. I have experience working with children with autism and ADHD and am CPR/AED certified. I strive to create a safe, loving, and engaging environment where children feel supported and encouraged to grow. My goal is to be someone parents can trust completely and someone their children genuinely enjoy spending time with. I look forward to meeting your family and becoming a positive, reliable part of your lives.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have about 9 years of professional childcare experience and have worked long-term with seven different families, caring for children from 2 months to 12 years old. My responsibilities have included maintaining daily routines, preparing meals, bottle feeding, diaper changes, potty training, school drop-offs and pick-ups, homework help, tutoring, transportation to activities, light housekeeping, laundry, and keeping the home clean and organized. I have experience caring for multiple children at once and supporting children with autism and ADHD. I believe in balancing structure with fun by incorporating creative activities, outdoor play, and educational experiences into each day. Building trusting, lasting relationships with both children and parents has always been one of the most rewarding parts of my work, and many families have shared that their children continued talking about me years after I had moved on.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love creating fun, engaging days that encourage children to learn, explore, and use their imagination. Some of my favorite activities include science experiments, arts and crafts, baking together, reading stories, building forts, imaginative play, puzzles, board games, and educational activities. I also enjoy spending plenty of time outdoors through park visits, nature walks, swimming, playground adventures, and scavenger hunts. No matter if we're working on homework, creating a craft, or discovering something new, I aim to make every day meaningful and memorable while encouraging curiosity, creativity, confidence, and independence.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is understanding that the time and energy I spend with a child can be very impactful on their life and development. I try my best to make sure I am setting a loving, trusting, and positive foundation that the child may grow upon to become their best self.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience caring for children with autism and ADHD and understand that every child has unique strengths, challenges, and ways of communicating. I worked closely with parents and therapists to maintain consistency by supporting therapy goals at home, encouraging speech and communication, practicing recommended exercises, administering medication as directed, and using patient, positive reinforcement throughout the day. My focus has always been on creating a calm, structured, and supportive environment where children feel understood and capable, I celebrate every milestone, no matter how big or small.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite memories is with a wonderful 6-year-old girl I cared for. She was incredibly curious, bright, and had the sweetest personality. One afternoon we were swimming at her grandparents' house when she started looking everywhere for her goggles. I watched her search around the pool while trying my hardest not to laugh because the entire time they were sitting on top of her head! I kept asking, "Are you sure you've looked everywhere?" She confidently said yes and continued searching. Then she suddenly reached up, felt her forehead, and we locked eyes at the exact same moment. We both burst into laughter. It was such a simple, silly moment, but it's one I'll never forget because it captured her playful spirit and the genuine bond we shared.
