Is caring for them, making sure there needs are met, there not hungry, diapers are changed, and when the baby doesn't stop crying PATIENTS is key, if you don't have patience, don't be a nanny. Also making sure the Child is happy, give them some laughter.

One time I tickle the baby under his armpit who started laughing and there was a time where I started ripping a paper in front of the baby and he started laughing so hard.
