Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Anything creative and fun! Growing up I had 3 younger siblings and limited television/internet access, so I became the entertainment! Whether it be elaborate make believe stories, playing pretend outside, crafts, making forts or backyard Olympics. I made sure my siblings were having fun being active, creatively and physically! My siblings are (mostly) grown up now, but my love for childcare and fun facilitating has never left me!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Connecting with whoever you're caring for! Kids are smart and can tell when your heart isn't in it. I always strive to be fully present and engaged when I babysit. Whether it be playing in the dirt or imagining what it might be like to be a bug. Im there and loving all of it!
My experience with special needs children...
I have a bit! I nannied a girl for 4+ years with a TBI who needed special attention and a different way of caring than other kids. She was a quick runner and would be down the street if I stepped away to go to the bathroom so I learned a lot of tricks with this one :) Some additional care I provided was help with emotional regulation, redirection from unsafe activities/actions, active communication with parents, prompting to control impulses and help with emotional outbursts in public settings.
