More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have twelve years of childcare experience as a mother and a babysitter. (Not counting my teen babysitting years!) I also serve or (have served in the past) on volunteer boards to advocate for our community's children... for example Children's Museum of Richmond Junior Board and Chesterfield CASA.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Too many things to list! Crafts, board games, outdoor play, reading, storytelling, tag, making a game out of chores

The most important part about being a nanny...

Safety is always the number one priority. Next is that I want the children to feel "heard" and respected as individuals. I try to balance that with also adhering to the family's preferences regarding routines, etc. Lastly I feel strongly about getting exercise/fresh air and also promoting literacy through lots of reading and other educational activities.

My experience with special needs children...

I have considerable experience caring for children with mental health and learning differences such as ADD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, sensory integration disorder, speech delay, fine/gross motor delays, written expression learning disability, OCD, and tic disorder/Tourette's. Additionally, I have not cared for children with Autism but I believe I would be able to if the family helped me to learn their schedule ahead of time and prepared me for common meltdown triggers. Additionally, I am a person with a hearing impairment who wears hearing aids. While my hearing loss seemingly does not affect my day-to-day functioning, it has blessed me with the gift of extra sensitivity for various challenges our children may experience.
