One of my favorite nanny/respite care moments was working with a child on the autism spectrum who was initially very reserved around new people. Over time, by keeping a consistent routine and being patient with his communication style, I started to see small breakthroughs, like him initiating interaction and feeling comfortable during activities he enjoyed. It was really meaningful to be part of that progress and to see trust build gradually.
