Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I worked at a summer camp as the camp nanny. This meant that I cared for the other staff’s children while they were working. When I was off duty, I would stand in as a camp counselor with the younger girls!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love taking children to splash parks, nature walks, and museums! One place I take my toddler that I nanny is the YMCA to swim and play in the play gym. When we have days inside, I create obstacle courses, scavenger hunts, and craft/music time.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Genuine connection and building a strong relationship with not only the kids, but the parents too. I love each and every one of the kids I work with and have worked with. I think it’s special and heart warming to become an extended part of the family. I want the kids to feel love and safety with me as their nanny. Someone they can trust and know that no matter what, I am there for them and will always care about them.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with a child with a G tube and misplaced organs. I also have experience working with children diagnosed with ADHD, autism, and other mood disorders. My mom is a nurse and specialized in developmental disabilities so I also have knowledge working with downs syndrome and cerebral palsy!
The most important part about being a nanny...
I recently went to Germany and Austria for a month. When I got back, the toddler I nanny was so excited to see me again and ran around the house yelling “Mary is here! Mary is here! This is the best in the whole world!” When nap time came around, I was sitting on the floor in front of the couch reading a story to her and she wanted to be as close as possible and fell asleep with her body draped over my shoulder. The only part of her body that actually stayed on the couch were her little feet. It was so funny and so sweet. After she woke up she said “you’re here! I love you so much!”, and gave me the biggest hug and kiss.
