My name is McKenna, and I am a passionate, creative, and dedicated educator. I earned my B.A. in Education from Elmhurst University and will be attending the Erikson Institute this fall to pursue my master’s in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and English as a Second Language.

I have been a preschool teacher for the past year, fostering strong relationships with children and families. Early education lays the foundation for lifelong learning, and I strive to make it equitable, engaging, and accessible for every child.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked as a Lead Preschool Teacher at Little Sunshine’s Playhouse and Preschool, where I had the privilege of working with children ages birth to 5 years old. In this role, I was responsible for creating and implementing engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans tailored to meet the needs of each child.

Beyond academics, I focused on classroom management, fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and structured environment where children felt safe, supported, and excited to learn. I provided all the TLC they needed, ensuring their social, emotional, and cognitive growth.

A key part of my role was building strong relationships with families, keeping them informed and involved in their child’s learning journey through regular communication, progress updates, and collaboration. I believe in working hand-in-hand with families to create a holistic, enriching educational experience for every child.

The most important part of being a nanny is being a constant source of support and comfort for the child. It means being by their side through every emotion—joy, sadness, frustration, and excitement—showing them that their feelings are valid and understood. My goal is to create a safe, nurturing environment where they feel loved, appreciated, and secure. When children know they are truly heard and valued, they build confidence, resilience, and trust, which lays the foundation for their overall growth and well-being.

My experience with special needs children...

In my classroom experience, I have had the opportunity to work with children with special needs, and while I strive to support their growth, I also recognize that teaching is a continuous learning process. Every child is unique, and I embrace the challenges and lessons that come with meeting their individual needs. I believe that being an effective educator means not only teaching children but also learning from them, allowing me to grow and adapt to provide the best possible support. My goal is to create an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child feels valued and empowered to succeed.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite moments working with children are seeing them grow in confidence—both in learning and in themselves. Watching them blossom, take risks, and embrace new challenges is truly the most rewarding part of being an educator. There’s nothing better than witnessing their excitement when they grasp a new concept or seeing their faces light up with pride and joy. The smiles, laughter, and connections we share each day make teaching an incredibly fulfilling experience, and I feel honored to be part of their journey.
