I have done volunteer work with children. I have babysat my neighbors children for 12+ hours while her and her husband work or when they just want to have some time off. I have also babysat my own siblings growing up.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Going to the park, playing board games, doing puzzles, teaching them to cook(depends on age), watching tv, playing sports, playing video games, and reading.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Having love and compassion for these children. It is a huge situation of trust when a parent allows you in their home to take care of their children. It’s so important for that person to be able to express the same love and care for that child that the parent would.
My experience with special needs children...
I have only had 2 experiences with special needs children, one with autism and one with Down syndrome. I was a “book buddy” in school which meant 2-3x a week you go read to the special needs class or just go read and hangout with one special needs child and get to know them and what they like or dislike and after a few weeks I seen improvement with communication, confidence, and it greatly helps with socialization.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Watching the children grow up and mature and become independent intelligent beings. Also watching them learn and improve, such as cooking or painting or simple hobbies that they find interest in.
