For me, I think it is listening. I try to really listen to a child or baby when they are communicating with me, however that may be. I think honestly listening can lead to a deepening of trust and independence for the kids. I find play, story time, and exploring outside is more fun when they can identify themselves as the explorer, the reader and so on.
