A little bit about me

I have 16 years of experience. My passion is building strong, professional bonds with families to ensure their children receive the highest quality care and attention.

My journey began as a mother's helper in 2007. In 2011, after being mentored by a friend who was an experienced nanny, I began the first part of my career as a nanny. I worked at Whole Foods as a cashier from 2013 to 2018 while nannying part time on the side. In 2018, I left Whole Foods to make nannying my full time career and I've loved every minute of my journey.

I love getting to be in a child's world and set up activities that help them explore their world. I take my role very seriously, making a solid effort to ensure children safe and well cared for. I practice a Montessori-inspired, child-led approach to childcare! My goal is to build confidence in your child to succeed in their milestones at their own pace! I do not rush or pressure a child to reach milestones!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

While the core of my 16-year career has been professional nanny work, I have also gained invaluable childcare experience through several unique roles. I have worked as an assistant teacher in a structured daycare environment, served as a volunteer camp counselor, and frequently volunteered youth services at the YMCA early in my career. Additionally, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to blend my love for community and education by teaching cooking classes for children in Guatemala and volunteering with Tilth Alliance (formerly Seattle Tilth) in Seattle, where I helped teach children about sustainable farming, nature, and gardening. All of these experiences have made me a more versatile, patient, and resourceful caregiver.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

1. Spending time outside either taking a walk in the neighborhood or going to a nearby park.

2. Engaging in sensory activities like filling a small container with sudsy water and putting toys in and seeing how they float, how the suds feel. Music play! Stacking cups, blocks, building towers, putting puzzles together.

3. Reading lots books and singing songs.

4. Working on milestones using fun methods to help your child thrive in each milestone he or she is working on.

And more...

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being reliable, available and responsible. Parents depend on their nanny to show up and take excellent care of their child and so it's crucial for nannies to show up ready to jump into action. It's the nanny's job to set a good example and prove to parents that they can trust you not only with their child and animals but in their home. I treat a family's home as a sacred space. The bond between nannies and parents is as important as the bond between nannies and children. I like to create what I call a professional friendship with parents which also includes respectable boundaries and room for improvement. Being a nanny is a very intimate job so it's important to come to work with your full heart, an open mind and excitement for the day ahead. Children love fun nannies and so making an effort to be fun and silly with kids allows for the bonds to get stronger overtime! Be approachable!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Taking children to see real animals for the first time at a farm. One of the cutest experiences is taking a child to a farm or zoo where he or she can see real, live animals up close. Prior to visiting these animals, we always read books about different animals and it's precious to see a child's eyes light up when they see the animals we've been reading about walking around and having a horse right in our face waiting for a carrot or apple. I often sing old macdonald had a farm with any animal we encounter!
