A little bit about me

My name is Mykayla but I go by Kayla, I’m 24 yrs old and I’m from Houston Texas. I just moved to Leesburg Fl about two weeks ago. I’m engaged to a loving man and I don’t have kids of my own, but I do have a stepchild. I come from a big family where cousins are raised like siblings and no one gets left behind. I’ve always been a nurturing person and kids love that. I love caring for kids because they are our future and it’s amazing to see how far their imagination goes. I enjoy teaching them the basics, such as education, kindness, leadership and how to be independent, nonetheless, I respect parents boundaries. Growing up I always aspired to be a mother and since that hasn’t happened yet, child care is my calling.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

In high school all 4 years I took child development classes and with those courses I needed to get community hours so I was assigned to a daycare every summer. Some were in home daycares that required me to assist with nap time and meals. The ones that were based in a facility required me to have a lesson plan for kids aged 4-8 yrs old, time management, hygiene, monitor recess, nap time, meal serving, parent pick up/drop off

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy doing arts and crafts so that it can open their mind to their imagination, I love watching kids discover different textures so I’ll bring my sand box or water pad for infants to get a feel of water without getting wet. I’m a little competitive so if you have an artist child we will be leaving Picasso paintings everywhere. I love the outdoors so we’ll have endless games of tag or venture off to a park. I’m truly a kid deep down inside and seeing kids have fun brings it out of me.

My experience with special needs children...

I only have experience with autistic children. I understand that their brains don’t work like mines so I tend to approach them calmly and try to figure out their likes and dislikes. I respect their boundaries as long as it allows them to stay in touch with reality. I learn their triggers words and try to get them used to saying it instead of hearing it. I don’t look at them any differently than I would if i were caring for an average child.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite Nanny moment is one morning all of the kids were losing their marbles, some were crying for no reason, others were crying because their favorite staff hadn’t walked in yet, there were 10 kids with only 2 staff at 6:30 AM. I hadn’t had my dose of coffee and was on the verge off crying with the kids. I’m a Disney fanatic and I have this one song from the movie Tangled, it’s the song where mother gothel sings to the flower and it glows and makes her young. To me the song was always gentle and calming. I immediately turned on the projector and played the song through YouTube and slowly but surly everyone stopped crying. We were able to get them settled down enough to serve breakfast and tend to the ones who were overwhelmed. Till this day I don’t think it was the actual song that made them quite down, I think it was literally just the sound of noise other than crying that distracted them.
