More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I was a preschool teacher to 50 children in New York while 16 and that’s where I fell in love with my career. Most recently I had my own classroom at the age of 19, which consisted of 24 eager to learn kiddos and a week to week curriculum created and followed by myself to help the students prepare for kindergarten.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Drawing, painting, running around outside, reading, and the basics of the subjects they will focus in on when entering kindergarten. Science, math, english, and history.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is having an understanding with the parent first. Of course a relationship needs to be built with the children and engaging with them in activities that is educational should take part in watching them, but as far as food (allergies), bathing (if need be), dressing, and naps/bedtime, nothing is more frustrating than throwing a child’s routine off. Being able to communicate with parents and get in the sway of their routine set is key to having a smooth new nanny transition and getting straight into fun.
My experience with special needs children...
I moved for a family emergency to Maine for 4 months and no place seeked toddler help so I became a behavioral counselor at a mental health institution where I’d help the children between ages 4-19 with their particular needs from being rape victims, suicidal patients, children under cared for and starved, children with autism and or disorders, and children who simply were unwanted. One of the hardest jobs but one of the most rewarding being able to connect and have conversations about how they feel. Being able to have fun in such a restricted environment and even when it got really tough with a few, just letting them know I wasn’t going anywhere and would be their for them every step of the way. It was a job that taught me a lot as a person and about mannerisms in others and to be aware. I was trained in HIPPA for that job and how to legally restrain without hurt or ill intent.
