A little bit about me

I am a 62 year old professional woman, bilingual, born in Brooklyn, NY but raised in Puerto Rico from Puertorican parents. Love to work with children and I am hoping to get a live-in arrangement opportunity in Orlando, FL. I moved to Orlando, Florida 2 years ago and I am ready to start working with children. I was a nanny for 3 years driving and picking up the children from school, taking care of their needs after school. I also cook Spanish food which is always my clients favorite, Lol! I also did light housekeeping. I worked 8 years as a live-in caretaker for special needs people. They are like children and do require a special care and different care which I was fully trained by the agency I worked for. Got all certification up to date. Hope to hear from a qualifying family soon.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked as a nanny for a 12, 9 and 7 year old after their mommy died. I worked for their dad Dr. Ronald Barbour. I picked them up from school and made sure they were taking care by cooking, homework, baths, light housekeeping and their laundry. I also worked as a live-in with special needs people. Trained them how to live outside home and be responsible for day to day living in a home by themselves with continued supervision. They required constant reminders just like a child and support with a different approach. Special needs require the caretaker to allow them and flow with them with minimal interruptions. Allowing them to grow and mature was critical for mental development and advancement. I was fully trained by the agency that hired me. Completed successfully all requirements and certifications required by the agency.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Park, beach, farms, shopping, restaurants with playgrounds, coloring, reading a book, playing hide and seek, watching Disney Channel cartoons, a good movie, pajama party (I did all this with my own and now with my grandkids) always looking for something fun and make them laugh!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Children are our future and new generation! It is critical that we created an atmosphere of peace, security and fun like a playground! They need their space and special attention. They are a gift from God that helps us all to slow down and grow in areas we never knew we needed until they came around as a son, daughter or grandchild! My grandchildren are loved with a careless care of discipline or rules, that is now the parents responsibility. Grandma just wants to have fun, enjoy them and spoil them everytime. It is the best relationship I ever experienced in being a grandma! I can see it in their eyes how their eyes light up when they see me and the love from their souls melts me away. These are different times, we must be alert and protect them at all costs. Parents need to feel and sense that a nanny can be trusted so it is important to be transparent with the child, mom, dad and all family members caring for the child.

My experience with special needs children...

I worked for 8 years with Cindy C. She was 42 years old but her actions and ways were just like a kid. She required anyone taking care of her to go to that capacity to be able to enjoy her company. She always wanted to have friends and would always ask me: "are you my friend" she would giggle and play around at times too much, Lol! She needs her slow pace not to be interrupted or will throw her off and she will be confused. Special needs is just that, they need you to stop and flow with them not the other way around. It was very challenging and took me about two years to stop, slow down and work with her on her level and on her timing. She needs a lot of assistance just like a child and needs tons of reminders because she will get distracted just like a child and need a lot of redirection. Behavior was an issue with others around her because there were tons of hugs and squeezing and not everyone wants to be squeeze indefinitely, Lol. She was very loving and caring.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My dad (RIP) introduced me to the famous hide and seek game, and he laughed and enjoyed it more than we did, Lol!. Every time I introduce this game to children they love it. When I walk through the doors to take care or babysit my grandchildren they run to hide and want me to come and get them. So much fun!
