More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

In the last few years, I have decided to make nannying my career. I have had two part-time positions with kids 4-6 and two full time positions with kids ranging from 10 months to 7 years. Before that, I was more casually invested in childcare. I have been both volunteering at local churches as well as babysitting locally since the age of twelve. Families I regularly watched includes a house of four boys from pre-k to middle school and a family of three children from 4 to 9. I also tutored a girl with dyslexia twice a week for two years, so I am experienced in that field and more than willing to help with school work.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Things I enjoy doing include dancing, all sorts of arts and crafts, story-telling, tag, going to parks, and playing pretend (for example, making fairy houses or going on an adventure in a hammock-turned-pirate-ship). Above all, I love doing what the kids want to do. They're all different!

The most important part about being a nanny...

is being flexible. As a nanny, I have to recognize that things don't always turn out exactly how one might plan. Kids are always growing and changing, which means new curveballs thrown at you weekly. I am entirely empathetic about that, and am not thrown off kilter, which allows me to continue to guide with a kind yet firm hand.

My experience with special needs children...

I am very familiar with working with kids who have learning disabilities such as dyslexia and ADHD. I can also utilize many therapeutic methods I have learned both from research and from experience with kids.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite memories from nannying so far is last summer when I was with the girls outside, dancing and singing to Taylor Swift while collecting flowers and making a "chipmunk path" out of pretty stones to make a flower garden for rodents out of their measly patch of wildflowers. It's simple moments like that when I am reminded why I love what I do.
