I grew up with two neighbor families that mine was close with that had children close in age to me with autism that I would play with. I also used to volunteer to help the kids with special needs off their bus and helped to get them comfortably settled into their classroom.

I used to nanny for a two year old girl and some of her other siblings. When we first met, she absolutely did not like me. She even tried to push me down the stairs in the first five minutes. Within the next week or two, she was running excitedly towards me as I arrived each day with a big hug and smile on her face.
