With one of my previous families, I helped an eight-year-old girl named Samantha learn how to read successfully. She was struggling with reading comprehension, so for an entire year, we would read a chapter from a book together aloud three nights a week. She slowly but surely got better at reading and comprehension. Last week, Samantha gifted me a book. As it turns out, she had read the entire book by herself on the nights I wasn't babysitting her. I was so amazed and proud of her progress.
