More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I raised 2 children with the love, patience, awareness and commitment necessary to exceed my own hopes and expectations of myself as a parent.
While raising children, I worked in a truly outstanding nursery and preschool program where I provided knowledgeable, dedicated care and learning opportunities to children from 6 weeks-12 years of age.
Currantly (and for the past 3 years), I am a nanny for 2 amazing little boys (nearly 2 and 3.5), whose parents, I believe, would, along with others, provide excellent references on my behalf.
As a volunteer for WisconSibs, I facilitate games and activities for children who have a sibling with special needs.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy following a child's lead in play and exploration while adding the occasional comment, question, prop, or idea to boost learning and reinforce their natural love for learning.
I like providing activities and setting up environments to support children's social, cognitive, and physical development, as well as their individual interests.
I like doing "floor time" ( including "tummy time", puzzles, blocks, reading, playing with cars, building with blocks, "dramatic play" etc.), playing in their backyard, exploring new parks, the zoo, a children's museum, going to Olbrich Gardens, classes the child might have, and so on.
As appropriate, I enjoy "cooking" (food preparation) experiences with children 2 and up, as they create so many natural opportunities for learning in areas of math, language, patience and so on.
I also love incorporating music, movement, fun, and laughter in daily activities.

The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny is making a notable positive impact on a young child's life and development, helping them to begin laying a foundation for a future of self-confidence, empathy, joy, and a love of learning
My experience with special needs children...
I have extensive experience working with children with special needs, having raised a child who has autism, and having worked with gifted children as well as many children with a broad variety of developmental challenges over more than 2 decades.
Through my son's early childhood years, I learned a great deal about facilitating physical and behavioral development from the many outstanding OTs, PTs, speech therapists and exceptional early childhood teachers.
In literally thousands of hours of working with thousands of children, over 20+ years in an outstanding early childhood care and education program, I gained a great deal of knowledge, understanding, and skill in working with children of all abilities.

The most important part about being a nanny...
There are far too many precious moments to really pick one (my family hear about them almost daily), but I love those moments when a child reveals a perspective that takes us by surprise; when a child offers an unsolicited hug or says, "I love you"; when a child delights in making their caregiver laugh; when they are excited to show you something they have made or discovered; when they encounter sand for the first time, and when they develop their own "favorites" in music, books, and so on.
