The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important thing about being a nanny is creating a safe, loving, and nurturing environment where children feel cared for, supported, and valued. A nanny is not only responsible for daily routines and safety, but also for being a positive role model who helps children grow with confidence, kindness, and curiosity. Building trust with both the children and the parents is at the heart of the role, because a nanny becomes an extension of the family.
My experience with special needs children...
As a teacher, I had experience working with children with special needs, including students on the autism spectrum. One child in particular, Raphael, who was 4 years old and initially had difficulty connecting with others.
I focused on being patient, consistent, and creating a safe and trusting environment for him. Over time, he began to open up—he would wait for me at the door every day, greet me with a big hug, and seek comfort by sitting close to me.
His mother shared that he didn’t usually show that level of affection with many people, which made the experience very meaningful to me. It reinforced how important trust, patience, and understanding are when working with children, especially those with special needs.

The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite moments as a nanny was when a child I cared for, who was usually very shy, started opening up to me over time. I focused on being patient, consistent, and creating a safe space for her. One day, she ran to me excited to show me something she had learned and started talking much more confidently. It meant a lot to me to see that growth and to know I helped her feel secure and supported.
