More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been drawn to caring for young children since I can remember, since age eight I have been soothing babies and entertaining younger children while monitoring their safety. Since my first nannying job caring for two 6-year-old twin boys, I have watched more children than I can count in many different settings. I have provided summer care for four families, made kid and parent approved food, driven children of ages 2-14 to and from school, and extracurricular activities. I have handled early morning, naptime, and bedtime routines for individual and groups of children.
I have worked with multiple local churches by providing extra childcare for their Sunday school and special events. I have been a counselor for 6 choral festivals at the University of Montevallo, helping middle and high schoolers navigate campus buildings, stay on task, and learn. I have volunteered at a circus camp for middle schoolers where I helped about 20 students safely learn the basic of walking on stilts.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I aim to guide children’s growth in kindness, courage, and curiosity- with a good dose of humor to keep things fun! My go-to activities for childcare fun are: getting outdoors by going to the park, on nature walks, or playing in the yard, playing creative and age-appropriate make believe and strategy games, doing arts and crafts to foster creativity and motor development, baking, reading and singing (ideally lots, I grew up in a very bookish household and am a music performance grad- so I’m a big believer in the power of language as a connector and developing force). I also enjoy leading adventures to McWane, the family's local library, or the occasional ice cream parlor for a treat. I think it’s important to balance physical play with the mental and emotional to help little ones grow into well rounded and self-regulating individuals. As long as they are safe and feasible, I am always open to the activities the kids choose themselves as well!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Providing compassionate care for the children, keeping them safe and meeting their needs. Getting to know them well and helping them grow.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for children with Autism, mild OCD, and Alpert Syndrome, with the most experience with mild-moderate Autism. I always work to uphold each family’s specific support routines, but what I always bring are increased warnings for transitions to a different activity and frame them positively ( “in 5 minutes it will be time to eat dinner” rather than ‘in 5 minutes you need to stop playing for dinner’). I am well equipped to handle allergies, I know how to cook and am very conscientious about checking what is in products for around kids with allergies. I have more experience with hyposensitive kids than hypersensitive kids, and for that I’d encourage a lot more moving activities and games that increase awareness of their bodies in space and find they generally like tight hugs, and lots of textures in a sensory space; but on the other end could keep an extra calm environment give ample preparation and support for new experiences and sensory downtime to avoid overwhelm and recharge.

The most important part about being a nanny...

It’s always funny to play hide and seek with young toddlers, but my favorite moment was a game with a 2.5 years old who needed help getting a large blanket untangled so he could hide under it. So I stopped counting to get it sorted, watched as he beamingly smiled at me and covered his head, finished counting to ten and then proceeded to be the seeker. He was so happy and excited that I could find him 5 feet from my spot, of course I loudly looked a few other places first, and his delight made my day even though I was playing both sides of a game of hide-and-seek.
