More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
My first paying job with children was at an after-school program at an elementary school in 2015. In 2016, I worked as a Lead Toddler Teacher in the two-year-old classroom. In 2019 I worked at a different center as a Lead in the one-year-old classroom. When the pandemic started in 2020, I switched to nannying. I worked for a family of 5 (twin three-year-olds, a five-year-old, and a twelve-year-old) doing primarily outdoor & Waldorf-based activities between assisting online classes. In 2021 I worked with two families doing a nanny share with children aged five and seven months who aged to about one and a half at the end of our time together. In the last year, I have been waitressing part-time as childcare work during the pandemic led to burnout. But after some time away, I genuinely miss working with children and can't wait to get back to the career I have passion for.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
The activities I am passionate about with children are social-emotional focused outdoor education. For example, with a young toddler exploring their "big" movement (i.e. throwing, banging, stomping), finding waters to throw rocks in, puddles/mud to stomp, etc. Or, for example, for a three-year-old who is pushing boundaries around listening to their caretaker, we can create obstacle courses or scavenger hunts where we take turns instructing the other.
Overall, there are no specific activities I enjoy doing with all children. I allow the child to lead me in their interests and I create (mostly outdoor) activities based on their social and emotional educational needs.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Being a nanny is important to me because I have the wonderful opportunity to get to know a child on an individual level and watch them grow into their authentic selves. Finding a family that shares my values of outdoor, gentle, and communicative approach is important to me as I truly love forming life-long bonds with the families and children I work with.
My experience with special needs children...
During my time as a teacher, I worked with emotional, developmental, and sensory special needs. This includes speech delays, hard of hearing/deaf, autistic children, sensory-seeking/avoidant, and trauma-related mental/emotional behaviors.
I have not worked with any child who has a physical disability. I have education from college in creating accommodations and am open to working with any and all children!

The most important part about being a nanny...
I was working as a nanny share, my oldest was 16 months and he went straight from crawling to RUNNING. The youngest was 14 months and she was very cautious yet determined in learning how to walk. She also suffered from separation anxiety and would have long crying bouts. During a particularly tricky day, I took them down the lake. The older boy played in the mud and giggled while splashing himself and using the whole area (& his body) as a sensory table. The younger one was calm and confidently started standing on her own. Then she smiled huge at the seagulls, pointed at them, and started mimicking their sounds - I was so proud of her! We made seagull noises and giggled the rest of the day and the older one got a much needed, super fun bath with lots of bubbles!
