Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been an ECE teacher for seven years. I have worked primarily with infants and toddlers, with preschool experiences throughout for short periods of time. I am also a part time caretaker for two 4 year olds and a 6 year old. My relationship as an aunt to a 1.5 year old had also added to my experience with children and families.

I enjoy rock collecting and painting, neighborhood walks, oil pastel and watercolor art, dancing, reading and storytelling with puppets, singing, pretend play using creative props, and running through the grass.

Building a relationship with families. It’s the best feeling in the world to be a source of comfort for a child. It is even more satisfying to have an impact of a child’s growth and overall development. To be accepted in such a way that a child is eager to show you their skills as well as their love.

While at the playground with a child from my classroom, we were working together to collect decorative beads that were spilled while the children created instruments. I held out my hand to this child, and she looked at my hand and said “Put the bead in your hand, Shawanna?” When I replied “yes”, she said “your brown hand?”. I laughed and said “yup, right in my brown hand”. The child rubbed my hand and said “I love your brown hand”. When I told her “Awww, I love you”, she replied “I love you”. This moment highlighted the purity and beauty innate in every human. It taught me that love is what we are meant to express. Love is what we gain through our willingness to accept and bond with one another.
