More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I would take care of my younger brother when he was little as well as babysit for some family friends. Once I was in high school I worked at a daycare for about a month before school started which gave me a lot of experience in a month but it wasn't the best work environment so I decided to leave. Now that I am at PSU, I have had the opportunity to begin working at the child development center there as a teacher aide and I absolutely love it! I have been working with kids ages 2-preschool age (4 ish).
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Taking kids on walks or to the park to run around and get their energy out is always something I enjoy as I love being outside! Playing games with them, reading stories together, and sometimes just listening to what they are talking about are fun not only for the kids, but for me as I get to learn more about them by watching them interact with different activities. Helping out with homework or teaching them how to do certain things is also something I enjoy because helping a kid finally understand that really hard math problem brings me so much joy and it feels good to help them understand and see their minds at work!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Communication for sure. Whether that be with the kids, or with the parents, communicating is key to making sure you as a parent feel at ease. Making sure the kids feel comfortable around me and they feel supported is also important to me. I want to make sure the relationship between me and the kid(s) is balanced. I want them to see me as a friend they can be silly with and trust, while also making sure they understand I am an adult and sometimes we have to be serious and follow the rules even if it's not fun.
My experience with special needs children...
I don't have experience with special needs children but I do want to gain some as I believe it is very important to have the knowledge I need to ensure the child is properly cared for and their needs are met.
