Hi! My name is Sophie Leskovar, and I’m 21 years old. I’m currently a junior at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, studying Early Childhood Special Education through their online program.

- Babysitting and Nannying: Over 12 years of consistent babysitting experience, including five summers as a full-time nanny. I have cared for children ranging from infants to school-aged, including those with differing abilities and support needs.

- Daycare Experience: Served as a Lead Toddler Teacher for 2 years at my local daycare, working primarily with children ages 1–2. The most important part about being a nanny is building a trusting, supportive relationship with both the children and their families. A nanny plays a key role in a child's daily life and development, so creating a safe, nurturing, and consistent environment is essential. I believe in being patient, present, and responsive to each child’s individual needs—emotionally, socially, and developmentally. It’s also important to maintain open communication with parents to ensure we’re working together to support the child’s growth. Whether it’s helping a toddler reach milestones, supporting a child with differing abilities, or simply being a reliable, positive presence in their day, the impact a nanny has goes far beyond basic care—it’s about helping children feel seen, valued, and loved.

My experience with special needs children...

My experience working with children with special needs spans over many years and age groups. I began volunteering in my mom’s special education classrooms, assisting children ages 2 to 10 with a variety of needs. As I got older, I expanded my involvement by volunteering with students in elementary, middle, and high school settings. These experiences inspired me to start a Best Buddies club at my high school to promote inclusion and friendship for students with disabilities. I’ve had the privilege of working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind, and those with autism, down syndrome, ADHD, and other developmental and learning differences. These opportunities have helped me develop patience, adaptability, and a strong commitment to inclusion—values that continue to guide me as I pursue a degree in Education and Special Education.
