Hi! My name is Surayya, and I’m a college student at the University of Texas at Dallas studying Speech Language Pathology. I’m currently taking a gap semester and looking to gain some more childcare experience in the meantime! I’ve been babysitting my younger cousins since I was around 10 years old, caring for kids between the ages of 5 and 10. I also have recent short-term experience nannying for a 9 month old baby. I have 1 year of experience working at Kumon Math and Reading center in Harker Heights, TX. I mainly tutored children aged 5-12 years old. I also have 2 years of experience as a volunteer summer camp counselor for ages 11-15 years old.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love joining in on whatever games kids are into, even if it means I have to learn something new myself. Seeing them have a good time is what makes it fun for me. Indoors we might play hide and seek, read books together, do puzzles, build with blocks, or dive into arts and crafts, which is honestly one of my favorites.

Outdoors is where I really have fun! I love going on walks, exploring parks, and playing games like soccer or tag. And if a kid has their own favorite outdoor game, I’m always happy to learn it and play along.

The most important part about being a nanny...

For me, it all comes down to safety, trust, and communication. I want parents to feel confident their child is in good hands, and I want the kids to feel safe, cared for, and genuinely happy when I’m with them. Keeping an open line of communication with parents matters a lot to me too, since it helps build that trust and makes sure everyone is on the same page about what’s best for the child.

My experience with special needs children...

I don’t have direct hands on experience yet, but I have some general knowledge in this area and I’m genuinely willing to learn. I’m patient, adaptable, and happy to follow any guidance from parents on what works best for their child.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Finding ways to make a kid laugh is honestly my favorite part. I had some short term experience with a 9 month old, and at first it was a challenge getting her to warm up to me. But I loved that challenge, and it melted my heart when I finally got her laughing by making silly faces and funny noises. Little wins like that are what make this work so rewarding.
