A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Tamara and I am a 38 yr old nurse and mom . I am an LPN and previously worked as an outpatient pediatric nurse until we adopted our son 2 years ago. I now work for several school districts as a substitute school nurse/teacher/para paraprofessional. I love working with the kids at school and love that I am doing something different every day! The downfall is that I don't work in the summer, but that leaves me open to be a summer nanny, either full or part time! The catch is that I have an amazing 5-year-old that I would like to bring along. He's very easy going and plays well with other kids. I have a perfect driving record, don't smoke, have a reliable vehicle, and am CPR certified. I am very hands on, love doing crafts, baking, going outside, games, reading, and playing with animals. I also love going on outings to the park or library. I am open to light housework and meal prep. Please contact me with any questions you may have. I look forward to meeting your family!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

-Outpatient pediatric nurse- 10 years
-Substitute School nurse/teacher/para- 1 year (currently empolyed in Byron, Kasson, and Dodge Center)
-Private caregiver (as nurse, aid, babysitter)- 20 + years

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Games, crafts, reading, baking, swimming, hikes/walks, sports, going to the park, library, and other local attractions. I don't typically encourage the kids to play video games or watch tv. There is certainly a time and place to watch a good movie or have a little down time with an episode of something, but I try not to let them be couch potatoes.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Helping the children to grow and become independent! I like to involve the kids in things like cooking or other house hold activities so they learn life skills while having fun!

My experience with special needs children...

I have extensive experience with both children and adults with special needs. I previously I worked in group homes for people with developmental delays for about 7 years. I then worked as a nurse for a year for the same company. I did private home care for a child with autism until he outgrew the need for me. I have worked with a large variety of kids needs (medical and developmental) through the clinic and at school. I often work one on one with special needs kids as a para or a special ed teacher.

The most important part about being a nanny...

It was bittersweet, but when I realized that the boy with autism I was taking care of no longer needed me. Over the course of my 2 years with him, he went from being completely dependent on others to being able to stay home alone, cook, leave the house, and essentially take care of himself. I was so incredibly proud of him and proud of myself for helping him along the way. But it was also sad that I would no longer be working with him because we became good friends during our time together.
