I have been in charge of children during meetings at STEP, Inc. I have been a care giver of children for 8+ years for family or as an profession. I have also held a position as a caregiver for a special needs child. I’m currently enrolled at PHCC for Early Childhood Development.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I usually allow the children to choose. I’ve very open to free and structured play. I love playing sports as I have played soccer, softball and basketball. With three younger sisters I’m familiar with more girlie activities as well. While caring for boy family members I’m not afraid of bugs nor getting dirty.
My experience with special needs children...
The special needs children I have cared for have had some form of autism. While dealing with them u first realize there are different spectrums of autism. Then you will be able to assess and proceed with care. The little girl I cared for was totally different from the boys I have cared for. She was very angry but very sweet towards me. She had tantrums that we would just have to let run it course. As for the boys they were angry and destructive majority of the time. We practiced a lot of self control exercises and redirecting.
