A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Tenleigh Smith. I am a Junior Student-Athlete at Idaho State University. I am currently on the Track and Field team expected to graduate with my Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Sociology this May of 2024. I am enrolled at University of North Carolina - Greensboro to pursue a Masters of Science (MS) in Kinesiology concentrated on Sport Psychology this upcoming fall!

I love being outdoors, knitting, reading, staying active by running, lifting weights and/or swimming, and being around friends and family!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

a supervisor at a youth group home for children aged 12-17 years old. My responsibilities include direct care, conflict prevention and resolution, and crisis response for those who suffer in terms of behavioral health concerns, including substance abuse, conduct problems, and learning disabilities.

I recently have been a part of a clinical practicum with clinical psychology PhD students focused on Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT). In this role I was expected to learn, demonstrate mastery with, and deliver therapeutic trauma-informed child behavior management skills with school-aged youth presenting for mental health care for varied presenting concerns.

I also have various experiences with date night, occasional, on-call, and overnight babysitting for up to four different aged children at a time.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

are those they feel comfortable doing and are having fun doing. Whether that means being at home or running around town being involved in different activities, I am open to whatever it is they want to do!

I would like to mention that I have several years of experience lifeguarding and conducting swim lessons. My experience has made me comfortable taking children to pools and aquatic centers. I still hold a certification in CPR and First Aid.

The most important part about being a nanny...

is being a leader and role model for the children. I want to set a good example and be somebody the children, family, and parents respect.

My experience with special needs children...

is volunteering at special need sports camps, activities, and clinics.

Although my experience is limited I am open to learning!

The most important part about being a nanny...

was when I was helping conduct an in-patient consultation for therapy and the patient mentioned that she felt safe talking to me and that she trusted me. It fills my heart knowing that I can be that safe space for someone.
