A little bit about me

Hi, I'm Tess, I'm 23 years old, and I'm a local DFW nanny. When I graduated high school I thought that acting was the only skill I had so I went to school at UT Arlington for theater. However, in 2020 I got my first nanny job and realized how much I love working with children and that childcare is where I really belong. So I decided to make a career change and transferred to TCC and will be starting my first semester in child development in the fall. I love working with kids and I am excited to see where this new path will take me.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked as a camp counselor for theater arts camps at local theaters from about 13-21.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I like to set up as many activities for the children I watch as possible. Some of the things I do is sensory play and problem solving activities for younger kids, painting, and cooking and baking pizzas or cakes. When the weather allows it I like to take young infants and toddlers under 2 on 1-2 walks a day, and take older children outside at least once a day.

My experience with special needs children...

During a camp I was working at I worked with a child who had difficulty managing his ADHD symptoms. I was the only counselor who wasn't annoyed with him and instead I tried to work with him on how to avoid meltdowns and how to regulate his emotions. I grew up with an autistic brother and my mom is a high school special education teacher so I have access to advice on how to work with special needs children.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My long term baby girl I watched was 2 at the time and had just become a big sister! She had a baby doll she began to really love once her brother was born and one day we couldn't find it. So her and I went upstairs to look. While walking up the stairs she asks "where is your baby?" and thinking she had meant a baby doll I said "I don't have one" so she says "ohhhh you have baby in tummy". I laugh and say no but it was a very funny and unexpected moment.
