Patience. Children are still learning emotional regulation. Without being patient (and EXTREMELY patient), you're in for so much trouble. Children are children. It sounds obvious but many people expect children to act and speak by adult standards. They're still learning and growing. Patience is the key to even the worst tantrums and the shyest child!

The most important part about being a nanny...
One time I was nannying for a friend. Her daughter had been extremely upset with Dad out of town. I tried every doll, book, activity I could think of. What finally ended up calming her down and making her squeal with laughter? Rolling around in circles with her in my lap in her Mama's office chair!! I can't remember her ever laughing that hard since I started nannying for her!!!
