One of my favorite moments was with one of my students who came to school with terrible separation anxiety. After a week of struggling to bond and make him feel calm and safe, he walked up to me, took my hand, led me to the book nook and handed me a book. He sat in my lap and turned the pages as I read him the story. I cared for him for another year and then cared for his sister 2 years after that.
