Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Reading books aloud, making crafts, "treasure hunts" outside (aka finding sticks and pinecones), singing, drumming, and making simple and silly games out of whatever is around us!
The most important part about being a nanny...
In truth, I wish that this was not even a needed paid position, and that all parents instead had the "village" that they deserve to help raise their kids. But unfortunately, as that is inaccessible to most Americans, I hope to help fill in some of those gaps, for at least one family. Ideally, being a nanny is a positive for all involved: parents benefit from the support, kids benefit from a new relationship + new perspectives, and I can benefit from being around children and witnessing their joy!
My experience with special needs children...
I do not have experience with this specifically. I am open to supporting a special-needs child, but because of my inexperience, I am probably not a good fit for someone who needs a lot of extra support.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The coolest moments for me have been watching my friends' toddler, E, as he starts to make connections between the images we see in his books and those things we see in the real world- e.g. buses, helicopters, dogs, cats. He loves pointing those things out and it's endlessly exciting and entertaining to me!
