On my first week with a new family, their infant cried every morning when his parents left for work. I started creating a short goodbye ritual— a hug, a wave at the window, and then a fun activity right after, like singing and dancing to his favorite welcome song or reading his favorite book. Within two weeks, the tears turned into smiles because he knew what to expect and felt secure with me. Seeing him wave goodbye with excitement instead of fear was a huge win.
