The most important part(s) about being a nanny is being empathetic and being a good listener! Truly listening to children and their thoughts and interacting with them in ways that are relatable to them is the best way to connect with them.

I worked with three children from Missouri who were only in town for the week. The job was supposed to be a once-off babysitting gig, but by the end of the first day they were begging for me to stay the rest of the week. I ended up working everyday of their vacation with them. The parents and grandparents that were traveling with them could not stop raving about how much they loved me, and how the kids had been asking for me to move with them back to Missouri. The kids were begging me to get on the plane with them!
It’s small moments such as this that make nannying/babysitting truly worth it for me. :)
