A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Maria Júlia and my life passion is to care for kids. I have experience as a nanny as well as a pre-school and special needs teacher assistant. I am certified as a Mental Health First Aid USA. I speak three languages, those being English, Portuguese and Spanish. I am currently teaching an Emotional Intelligence class at Latino Behavioral Services for children from 6-years-old through 12-years-old. I am reliable and extremely dedicated. Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to read and create stories. I look for educational reading about children's mental health and to help them identify emotions. Dancing and singing. Activities that stimulate creativity and free expression, such as painting, drawing, etc. I love park walks and outdoor picnics under a tree. Bicycling. Anything that will make them have fun and improve their development.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being a nanny is to love and care for someone else's most valuable asset in their lives. It is to understand that children are incomparable precious, and to provide care to them requires an exquisite heart. Loving and caring for children is my life passion. They light up the world with their genuineness, and such light must be protected.

My experience with special needs children...

I was a teacher assistant at a special needs class where I would work one-one with the children to help them with assignments, to socialize with the group, to assist them on expressing themselves. I also facilitated recreational actives.

The most important part about being a nanny...

During one of my Emotional Intelligence class we were doing an exercise of listening to songs and drawing what we felt. As a song from Coco started playing, one of the children started crying. I asked him what happened and he said that the song remembered his grandpa, all the other children comforted him and said that everything would be okay. As teacher I helped him to understand what grieving is and that it was okay to feel what he was feeling. He calmly stopped crying and we moved on with the class. In that moment I realized how important it is to always validate a children's emotion and to understand the way that they express themselves.
