A little bit about me

Hi, I'm Aria! I'm a rising junior at Tufts University in Boston, studying Fine Arts, but I'm back home in Walnut Creek for the summer. I was a babysitter all throughout my high school career, and I just love working with kids. I think one of my most important responsibilities as someone who works with kids is to encourage their sense of play and creativity.

"Mackenzie was not afraid to jump right in and instantly bonded with my 2.5 year old. From the start, she was very animated, she got down to his level and discovered what his likes were which made him comfortable and want to engage. After her first day he was asking where his friend Mackenzie was and when she was coming back. My 9 month old also took to Mackenzie rather quickly, specifically when she read stories and simply talked to her. Again she was very animated which was reciprocated with joy and excitement. Mackenzie is also very loving, nurturing, funny, pays attention to detail and caters to each child’s specific needs. I would still love to have Mackenzie around but I no longer need nanny services. However, whenever I get into a pinch and need someone who is responsible and fun that my kids love, I do not hesitate to call her with the hope she could be available."

"Alejandra cared for our son since he was 6 months old until he started preschool this fall. She’s warm and kind, and kept him engaged all the time - he lit up and when he saw her. She’s an experienced nanny who advised me many times about his development and timing for trying new things. She was always noting any changes in his behavior/eating/sleep patterns to discuss with us. She is a lovely person and I felt totally safe with him in her care. Ale has 12+ years of experience as a nanny in CA. Her last family included 2 young children and their glowing references were part of what drew us to her. Ale is infant CPR Certified and experienced with an epi-pen. This was huge for us, as our son had several dangerous food allergies. Though Ale is fluent in English and Spanish, she spoke to our son almost exclusively in Spanish, providing him with valuable early dual language exposure. Ale has my highest recommendation. I trusted her with my precious baby and I didn’t do it lightly."

How to Find a Babysitter in Walnut Creek, CA

Nanny Lane is a child care website meant to help you find a babysitter in your area. Our child care services include background checks, a dedicated hiring agent, and payroll.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in Walnut Creek, CA

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in Walnut Creek can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

Walnut Creek Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in California?
  • Do you have a California driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
