"Tabbi watched my older kids a few times before 2013 when my daughter was born (by then my son was 10 and step daughter was 8), but really started working for us regularly when the baby was just a few weeks old. She was very attentive and careful with her as a newborn and they formed an amazing bond! I always felt that the kids were safe and well taken care of. Tabbi always had a craft or activity planned that both the little one and the big kids could do. We have pictures and Christmas ornaments, etc that they made together. She even made flashcards for my daughter when she was getting ready to start school! As the kids got older and the big ones didn't really need "watching", she still would include them on the fun, if they were interested. Tabbi moved away from us at the end of 2020 when my daughter was 7, but she has still kept in touch over messenger kids and taken her on an adventure when she's come home to visit family. She really loves my daughter like she was her own!"

A little bit about me…

Hello I’m Emma, I’m 18 year olds and just graduated high school. I’m very bubbly and sweet, I get along well with children. I do have previous experiences with children, I have a special needs sister and have basically been like a second mom since I was a kid. I also have been like a baby sister to a family friends kid since she was a baby. I love kids and I’m very reliable, mature, and organized. I’ll always speak nicely and use manners when speaking to children and parents, I will never raise my voice, disrespect children or parents, or over step any boundaries in anyway. I’ll make sure your kids have a blast while I also keep the house tidy and clean. I get off school early since i’m just finishing up school so I can pick up kids from school/daycare. I am looking for a job this summer to help me save up for college. I’m planning on going to UNCW and I want to become a physician assistant.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Gastonia, NC

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Gastonia Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Gastonia? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Gastonia?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in NC? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.

Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny

Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
