The most important part about being a nanny...
Most important is obviously keeping the child(ren) alive and safe! Also important is being consistent and trustworthy and following the routine that the parents have established. Having a sense of humor and enjoying and appreciating the time with the child(ren)
My experience with special needs children...
One of my CASA youths was autistic and minimally verbal. She knew some ASL so between that and using a lot of hand gestures and facial expressions we were able to communicate.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Not really a nanny moment but one time with my CASA youth who was minimally verbal I took her to the beach and I rented a tandem bike for us. She was 8 but had never learned to bike. Once we got going I heard her yell out “Happy!” From behind me. 😊
