A little bit about us

We’re a warm, active family in Westport, CT looking for an experienced, nurturing, organized, and highly dependable full-time nanny/family assistant to join our household starting in November.

We have five kids, ages 10, 8, 6, 2, and 1. This role focuses on the two youngest. The older three are in school full-time and busy with activities; our 2-year-old is in preschool three mornings a week and our 1-year-old is on an established nap schedule. One parent works from home part-time, and we have a big, friendly German Shepherd/Border Collie mix.

SCHEDULE (~40 hrs/week, live-out): Monday–Friday. Four weekdays at 8 hours each, plus one weekday “date night” shift from 1:00–9:30 PM (day coordinated with you). Occasional paid extra hours, pre-arranged overnights or weekends, and occasional domestic and international family travel.

WHAT YOU’D DO: Loving, developmentally appropriate care for our 1- and 2-year-old—play, reading, crafts, outdoor time, meals and snacks, naps, diapering, and daily routines. Occasional help with the older three. Driving kids to preschool, activities, and appointments. Kids’ laundry, keeping kids’ rooms, play areas, and supplies organized, and light childcare-related tidying (we have separate house cleaners). Help with the kids’ schedules, family errands, packing for travel, and bedtime on the date-night shift.

WHO YOU ARE: 3–5+ years of professional nanny experience with strong infant/toddler experience. Proactive, organized, warm, patient, energetic, and creative. Flexible with occasional schedule changes and travel. Reliable, punctual, discreet, and a great communicator. Valid driver’s license with a clean record, current CPR certification, comfortable with a large dog, authorized to work in the U.S., and strong childcare references.

PAY: $30–37/hour depending on experience, paid on the books, with paid holidays and all extra hours paid.

Please send a short note about your experience and your availability for an intro call.

Types of Nanny Jobs and Nanny Responsibilities in Connecticut

Before you start looking for a nanny job, it's essential to learn about the different types of nannies and how they compare to each other so that you make sure you’re looking for the right opportunities.

The different types of nanny jobs have different nanny responsibilities. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. However, in general, a nanny is responsible for making sure the children's needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to make sure your expectations are aligned with the family.

There are temporary nanny jobs, even seasonal nanny jobs like summer nanny jobs. Beyond seasonal and temporary nanny positions, there are differences between full-time and part-time nanny jobs. The primary difference being the number of hours you spend at your nanny job every week. For full-time nannies, there are options for live in nanny positions and live-out positions in Connecticut. Live-out positions are more common, but each family has their own set of needs that require different types of care, and live in nanny positions can be exactly what some families want. If you're looking to explore live in nanny positions, it's even more important to create a shared set of expectations around hours, responsibilities, and what is expected of you when you're not on the clock.

If you're exploring other types of jobs beyond nanny positions, consider looking into cleaning jobs, pet sitting jobs, luxury fashion jobs, or elder care jobs.
