The W. Family - Hiring in Brookline

The W. Family

Brookline, MA
$33/hr
Full-time (nanny)
3 kids

A little bit about us…

We are a family of 5 living in southern Brookline with three young children looking for a full-time nanny to be an extended member of the family starting in June (50 hours per week). Our boys will be in full-time camp most weeks in the summer and full-time school starting in September, all here in Brookline. The primary duties associated with our older two children are light meal prep and getting them to and from school and after-school activities (your own car is preferred, and a driver’s license with no tickets or other incursions is required). Our daughter will be 2.5-months old in June and will be the nanny’s primary charge. We are looking for someone with early childhood development experience (preferably formal training) to help us ensure that she is meeting her developmental milestones on time and to create a play-based learning environment for her at home (including participating in local play groups). As a family, we love being outdoors in all seasons, art projects, and any game with a ball 🙂 Ideal hours are M-F, 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM.

We offer a competitive salary based on experience. Additional tasks will include light housework tied to the kiddos (e.g., their meal prep, clean-up, laundry, light grocery shopping, and toy tidying). Contact us if you’re interested!

Types of Nanny Jobs and Nanny Responsibilities in Massachusetts

Before you start looking for a nanny job, it's essential to learn about the different types of nannies and how they compare to each other so that you make sure you’re looking for the right opportunities.

The different types of nanny jobs have different nanny responsibilities. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. However, in general, a nanny is responsible for making sure the children's needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to make sure your expectations are aligned with the family.

There are temporary nanny jobs, even seasonal nanny jobs like summer nanny jobs. Beyond seasonal and temporary nanny positions, there are differences between full-time and part-time nanny jobs. The primary difference being the number of hours you spend at your nanny job every week. For full-time nannies, there are options for live in nanny positions and live-out positions in Massachusetts. Live-out positions are more common, but each family has their own set of needs that require different types of care, and live in nanny positions can be exactly what some families want. If you're looking to explore live in nanny positions, it's even more important to create a shared set of expectations around hours, responsibilities, and what is expected of you when you're not on the clock.

If you're exploring other types of jobs beyond nanny positions, consider looking into cleaning jobs, pet sitting jobs, luxury fashion jobs, or elder care jobs.

How to Interview for a Nanny Job in Massachusetts

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a nanny job interview. Here is a list of some nanny interview questions to prepare for:

  • What do you think children like best about you?
  • What kind of activities will you do with children this age?
  • How do you handle problems that arise behaviorally and emotionally with kids this age?
