Hello! My name is Lexi and I have 8 years combined of volunteer and paid work experience. I am the oldest of five with four siblings of special needs, making me very well equipped to handle the practical, everyday aspects of caring for kids with special needs! I am a cheerful and outgoing person who does great with anxious kiddos that might have separation anxiety! I also have experience with autistic children and am calm during meltdowns. I use a lot of psychology based tactics including feeling validation, controlled choice making, co-regulation, as well as use of sensory fidget toys. I come with a fully packed nanny bag with age appropriate games, toys, and regulation tools! I look forward to working with you and meeting your kids!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love taking walks, playing board games, running around outside, dancing, any movement based activities. I also love crafts! I am the kind of nanny who will do my absolute best to find activities away from as many screens as possible!

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny for me is being able to call myself a safe space for the kids I care for. Sometimes they're too young or something prevents them from being able to remember me longterm so I never shoot for being overtly memorable for the kiddos (although that is a great bonus!) but being someone they feel is a safe person in their lives means the world to me.

My experience with special needs children...

At my current position as a daycare teacher, I have become very bonded with a non-verbal special needs child there and I have plenty of practical experience in my own life as many of siblings are special needs and many children that I have babysat and cared for across my volunteer experiences have been special needs. Including children who are hard of hearing, autistic, have specific sensory needs, and have physical differences as well.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of. my favorite memories of my kids was when I was doing a series of babysitting jobs with children who had a reputation for being challenging, I finally had a breakthrough moment where he asked me to play something with him instead of it being the other way around. It was something so small but meant so much to me because it meant progress was being made.
