I took a long, deliberate break from working to raise my children and am looking forward to jumping back in while my kids are in school. I have worked in a daycare center, fitness club child drop-off center, and have done extensive babysitting. I have also had the privilege to volunteer with our schools and in different childcare roles in church throughout the years, including in the nursery and as a Sunday school teacher. I have worked in various other work settings, but working with kids has definitely been the most fun and most rewarding!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love reading, playing games, and encouraging imaginative play with kids. I also enjoy taking walks or engaging in exploratory time outside. When possible, I like sharing trips to the library, the zoo, the park and/or other areas of interest.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Love and safety are the top priorities followed closely by creativity and fun. I believe kids learn so much through play and through the experiences and interactions they have with those around them. I also find that reading to children, or, depending on their age, having them read to you, can kick start a lifetime love of learning.

My experience with special needs children...

I have had limited but memorable experiences with children who have cerebral palsy. In connecting with them, as with anyone, I found that we’re all much more similar than we are different. These children had some physical and communication limitations, but like all children, desired love, attention, and connection, and with that, were often quick to respond in kind. Love never fails.
I know this is an oversimplification, merely my top takeaway from my limited experience.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There are so many moments over the years where I have been amazed and inspired by the pure love of the children in my care. A favorite memory, though, has to be of the little boy that I watched for years who took the role of ring bearer in my wedding. I had become so close with the entire family and am forever grateful that they were part of that special day!
