I cared for my nephew during the summers from age 0-4, he is on the spectrum. I also helped care for my neighbors 3 year old daughter after school during my high school when needed.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I usually follow what the children are interested in doing unless it is destructive. I try to keep them off screens as much as possible and redirect with a game, a book or a puzzle. I have no problem cleaning up with them/after them, so I’m not worried about messy activities.
My experience with special needs children...
My nephew is on the spectrum and gets frustrated or upset easily, so patience and accommodation is required, but I also don’t let that hinder his ability to learn and grow.
