I was the teacher of a 1 in a half year old boy who had extreme social anxiety. He refused to talk to any teacher or child for months. I worked with him everyday, practicing speaking a few words at a time and trying everything to get him to laugh. One day I walked into the classroom and he stood up from his seat with the biggest smile and ran to me and screamed "DESI!" it was the first time he said my name without my help. I hugged him so tight and told him how proud I was of him.
