A little bit about me

Hello, my name is Jen.

I am a mother of one, but I have raised many kiddos throughout the years. I have been a nanny for years, then I opened a in-home preschool when I had my own daughter. I have been teaching second grade at a local private school for the last two years. I am looking for a change of pace and would like to nanny kiddos again.

I have a BA in ELA education. I love all things science, nature, history, math and READING. I am a wonderful tutor in all subjects. I love making fun and healthy meals with kiddos. I think it is important to educate kiddos about nutrition and how our bodies work.

I am a very organized, I love planning, and I keep things tidy.

I am looking for a family in need of part-time, nanny sharing or full-time. I am available to work days, and afterschool hours, but I would like to be home to make my family dinner and put my daughter to bed myself.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been a second grade teacher for 2 years at a private school in Rockford.

Before that, I ran an in-home preschool called Organically Grown for 3 years.

I taught middle and high school in Florida for a number of years.

Before that, I was a full-time nanny of 3 kids for 3 years.

I have worked in a pediatric home health nursing agency for 4 years.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I LOVE anything outdoors! I often go hiking, and walks around the neighborhood. I love going to the library once a week. I also enjoy museums, playgrounds, parks, cafes, in-door playgrounds, picnics. There are always a lot of happenings in our community. I love to take advantage of live music, guest speakers and special events/festivals.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Loving the child as if they were your own when their grownup is away. I make sure all of my kids are safe, cared for, and entertained in their grownups absence. I also make sure to share regular updates with their grownup so that there is an ease to focus on what needs to be handled at that moment. We all play a part in raising these incredible tiny humans. It really does take a village.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with autistic and children with ADD/ADHD. I did work for a home health nursing agency so there is exposure to special needs services but I did not participate directly.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Oh, man. This is a tough one. Pride. Pride in a child because they put the work in and your encouragement/coaching helped in getting them there.

Perhaps, when I see a kiddo recognizing and talking themselves through a heavy emotion. I love working with kids from a young age to better help them understand the control/power they have over how they react.
