The most important part about being a nanny...
Patience! I think patience is so important when dealing with kids so you can help each other learn how best to handle an issue if it arises.
Respect is also important. If a child doesn't feel respected, they tend to not listen or feel inclined to do anything you're asking of them. Treating a child like a person with autonomy is a must!

I don't have any experience with special needs kids directly. My sister is special needs, however, and as kids I had to look after her.
