More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have enjoyed work as a preschool teacher, ABA therapist for children on the ASD spectrum, camp counselor as a live-in counselor, a private nanny, and overnight sitter. I have earned my bachelors degree while in these roles, and look forward to earning my Masters with a honed skill for caregiving and multitasking.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I believe if I can clean it up, then they can do it! That being said, I love water play for calming, sensory play for exploring (think uncooked rice and construction vehicles instead of sand), playgrounds, libraries, museums, and good old fashioned puddle-jumping! I homemake crafts and activities, including potty charts, educational materials, and personal gifts. Kids learn through being involved. I enjoy having the time and space to allow little hands to make mistakes and try again. I encourage my children to want to help clean up, want to participate in regular chores, and want to do for themselves and others! Further, I teach children to be creative when deciding how to manage their tasks, rest time, and emotions.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part is being a safe space for the entire family. Parents deserve to feel like someone who loves and adores their children is keeping them safe and making the best decisions for them without needing constant support. Parents need mental space to do the work a nanny can’t, and to be there emotionally when it counts. Through this safe space the parents can lean in to, the children have the opportunity fully connect with a nanny, and have enriching experiences that don’t put a magnifying glass on a parents busy schedule.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for children as a Behavior Technician under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in North Carolina and Virginia. In this role, I was able to follow protocol and routines to lead to my children being successful, and enjoyed meeting so many different children. As a private nanny, I have experienced children with ASD, partially deaf children with cochlear implants, children with Asperger’s, and children with experienced trauma. I am proud to be a safe presence for children to bond with, and have enjoyed outings with many of the kids!
The most important part about being a nanny...
I will say this one because it happened this January - favorite nanny moment is when a baby finally names you! I am “Sha” to my 9 month old I nanny currently! Also, whenever a kid wakes up from a nap and looks for you first. I could go on, there are so many. Kids are a rewarding bunch!
